Have your antiques valued at home
A piece of family jewellery, a canteen of cutlery put away for years, an inherited painting or bronze: before parting with them, you want to know what they are worth. We come to examine them at your home, or give you an initial assessment from your photographs.
The valuation is free and without obligation. For the pieces we are able to buy, we give you a written offer, which you remain free to decline.

Valuing is not buying
Two separate steps, which we always keep apart.
The valuation
- Free and without obligation, from photographs or at your home.
- It tells you what the object is, what gives it its value and in which market it sells.
- It covers all your objects, including those we do not buy.
The offer to buy
- Only for the pieces we are able to buy: we do not promise to take everything.
- It is given to you in writing, object by object.
- You can accept it, decline it or take time to think it over.
What helps us value your objects
A few details are enough for an initial assessment. Please do not clean anything before our visit: cleaning can remove a patina or a hallmark.
- Photographs
- An overall view of each object, then the details: underside, back, mechanism.
- Dimensions
- Height, width, depth, and the weight if you know it.
- Signatures and marks
- Signature, hallmark, stamp, label or number, photographed close up.
- Condition
- Missing elements, cracks, repairs, parts that have come loose or are incomplete.
- Known provenance
- Inherited or bought, and any documents, invoices or cases you have kept.
How a request works
You describe your objects to us
By telephone or with the form. Add photographs if you can, although they are not required.
An initial assessment
From your descriptions and photographs, we tell you whether an examination in person would be useful, and for which objects.
The appointment
The expert comes to your home, examines each piece in front of you and explains what they are looking at.
You decide
For the pieces we are able to buy, a written offer. If you decline, nothing changes: your objects stay with you.
An inheritance, or a sale for a relative
Many requests come while an estate is being settled, or on behalf of an elderly parent. We can value all the objects to give the heirs a clear picture before anything is shared out.
To sell on behalf of someone else, you need a written authorisation or a power of attorney. We tell you which documents to have ready when we arrange the appointment.
What we do not do
We value and buy objects of value. We do not offer clearances, of a room or of a whole house, and we do not transport furniture. If that is what you are looking for, a specialist company will be better placed to help.
Where we travel
We are based in Chauny, in the Aisne département, and we travel by appointment throughout France. For an appointment far from Chauny, an initial assessment from photographs shows whether the journey is worthwhile.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a charge for a valuation at home?
No. The valuation is free and without obligation, whether it is done from photographs or at your home. You owe us nothing if you decide not to sell.
Should I prepare the objects before the visit?
If possible, gather them in one room and set out any documents you have (invoices, certificates, jewellery cases, watch papers). Please do not clean them: a cleaning product or a cloth can damage a patina, gilding or a hallmark.
How long does a visit take?
It depends on the number and nature of the objects. We give you an idea when we arrange the appointment, based on what you have described to us.
Do you buy every object?
No. We value everything you show us, but we only make an offer for the pieces we are able to buy. We tell you frankly when an object’s value is mainly sentimental.
What happens to the objects you do not buy?
They stay with you. Nothing leaves your home without your agreement.
Can I decline your offer?
Yes, at no cost and without giving a reason. You can also take time to think it over or to discuss it with your family.
I am selling a relative’s belongings: what do I need?
A written authorisation or a power of attorney from the person concerned. When an estate is being settled (a succession under French law), the heirs must agree before anything is sold. We tell you which documents to provide before the appointment.
How can I recognise a reputable buyer?
A reputable professional gives you time to think, gives you a written offer, records your identity as French law requires of anyone reselling second-hand goods, and never pays for precious metals in cash. The French Gendarmerie publishes advice on recognising abusive doorstep selling (in French).
Brocanteur, antique dealer or auctioneer: what is the difference?
A brocanteur (a dealer in second-hand goods and antiques) and an antique dealer buy objects in order to resell them; a commissaire-priseur, the French auctioneer, organises auctions on behalf of sellers. We value your objects and offer to buy them directly. For a piece that warrants it, we will also tell you whether an auction might be the better option.
